Had a blast in the high desert during my recent trip to Southern California. Drove 3 hours to the middle of the Mojave to a place called Rainbow Basin, located 20 miles north of Barstow. The area is notable for its beautiful structure of rock formations and fossil beds. The ground was littered with spectacular specimens, both of igneous and sedimentary origins. The geology was simply overwhelming, I felt like a little kid in a candy store and had the entire place to myself.
